Ronnie (march 2002 - august 2005)
Music in the context of life (I said in my last post). And straight away life has thrown a curve-ball.
Today, I lost my best diving buddy. Ronnie, our black labrador, suddenly got ill over the weekend. To our horror it turned out to be some really severe liver disease and we had to have him put to sleep. Only 5 days ago we were romping along on our favourite local walks with years ahead of us. Now he's gone - only 3 years old - and only memories remain. I feel like the little fellah in "The Yearling". We are all gutted and our house seems much lonelier without him.
I didn't even think it worth mentioning on sunday - what a difference 2 days make...

Jon, I've just found your blog after visiting your main site for the first time in a while. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Most people don't seem to understand about the bond between human and animal companion. That's probably because they are unable to connect as deeply, with other humans or animals. I hope your grieving is not too hard, and that another animal companion comes into your life to brighten it soon.

Hi Catherine
I only just noticed your post and I'd like to thank you for your kindness in thinking about me. I have always loved dogs and I have been lucky to have 2 long-term canine companions. Yogi, who lived for 13 years, and Ronnie who sadly died aged just 3. It is true. you do form a special friendship with dogs. Well, I do any way. And both Ronnie and Yogi are sadly missed.
You will be pleased to know there is now another dog (well bitch actually) in the Short household. Izzy (my son Liam's choice of name) is a cross border/patterdale terrier and is much "smaller" than my other doggy chums. At least it is easier to lift her over walls/stiles etc... on our long country walks.
Best Wishes and thanks again
Jon
